Abstract
LEDs have revolutionized lighting, now also UVB LED lamps designed for reptiles are commercially available. I will discuss why I consider UVB LEDs not yet ready for use. While their ease of use, spread of UV and long lifespan is a benefit, the spectrum differs from sunlight and gives rise to the concern about vitamin D3 overdose. Standard white LEDs can add visible light for reptiles and benefit plant growth. But it should be kept in mind, that reptiles see colour differently than men, and LED light that is white to us is not white to reptiles because UVA is missing in the spectrum.
